Bionic Commando, a classic Nintendo Entertainment System arcade game from 1988 is about to receive its first proper sequel but this time for the PC. Coming to uson July 28th, about 20 years after the original, the game will put us into combat boots of a bionic-enhanced soldier once more. The main feature of the game was a bionic arm with grappling gun that could attach itself to ceiling and allowed for scaling objects by swinging instead of jumping. Studio GRIN, makers of games such as Ballistic or the Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter series for PC are behind the project. After the console gamers got their remake, the game is coming to the Windows platform as well.

Unlike the first Bionic Commando that featured an unnamed main character [falsely advertised as Super Joe from Commando series, Ed.] the protagonist has a name – Nathan "R.A.D." Spencer. The story of the game takes place five years after Nathan/Super Joe cyborg defeated the Imperials. The government he once served betrays the Bionic Commando. Falsely accused for numerous crimes he is sent to prison to rot until the time to carry out his death sentence comes.
On the very day he is about to be executed terrorists detonate a massive experimental weapon in Ascension City. The bomb induced earthquakes reduce the city to rubble and destroy the whole population. What remains of the city is now under the control of the terrorists and it is up to Bionic Commando to perform "take the enemy from behind assault".

If you suffer from vertigo, this is not the title for you… then again, if you wish to get rid of that phobia, this just might pull it off.
The game will feature the bionic arm that made the original so popular but this time will allow movement in full 3D. Super strong bionically enhanced attacks and the ability to whip your victims err…terrorists or toss them into air sounds like loads of fun. This game will allow the player to swing between skyscrapers, hook from one object to another and all the crazy stuff Spiderman could do if he had military training, a good gun and the will to use it. Considering the player now looks more like a pissed off commando instead of a Han Solo-Indiana Jones wannabe, great abilities and the presence of a dystopian landscape very similar to Gears of War makes this game look very promising.
