CES was a warehouse of exhibitors all vying for your attention. Walking the crowded aisles, one exhibitor captured my eye – or I should say, their "booth babe" did. A Marilyn-Monroe-styled model smiled and posed in front of a replica of the famous HOLLYWOOD hillside sign.
The company, Tiffen, has been around for more than 70 years, manufacturing and supplying photographic filters and lens accessories for both the consumer who creates professional images and the motion picture and broadcast television industries. Tiffen has received Technical Achievement Awards and a Scientific and Engineering Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, as well as an Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Tiffen was advertising their latest Steadicam Smoothee, a new "easy to use right out of the box" image stabilizer for use with the consumer devices such as the Apple iPhone 3Gs or professional cameras such as Canon’s EOS-5D. It won the CES 2010 Innovations Award under Design and Engineering. The Smoothee has a patented design behind its 8"W x 14.5"H x 2.5"D [20.3 x 36.8 x 6.4cm] operating configuration size. Its quick release, movable mount can be used as a table top stand or mounted on any tripod with a standard ¼ x20" camera mount.
In addition to the Smoothee, the company offers special effects filters to still photographers and videographers that previously were only available to the Motion Picture and Television industry. The Tiffen Dfx Digital Filter Suite is a filter software line. Tiffen Color Core technologies control color and density of every Tiffen filter which comes with a 10 year warranty.
