The iPhone has been the subject of several problems. No, I?m not talking about the antennae-gate furor. I?m thinking about day to day common user mishaps. Dropped calls are annoying, but dropped phones are a greater disaster. Crash goes the phone. Crack goes the screen, and you hear that ominous "pop" as your screen breaks.
One expert says that with a little perseverance you might be able to remedy the problem yourself. Oh yes, you?ll need steady hands, something if you had, you wouldn?t have dropped the phone in the first place. But we digress.

Jesse Herman, an electronics repair service specialist for iPhones. suggests a Google search for the propensity of the iPhone 4?s screen to self destruct more easily than its predecessors did. He proposes a way to repair your iPhone yourself.  If it is the 3G series, you need only replace the glass. However, if it is the iPhone 4, plan to replace both the glass and the LCD as they are glued together.

Org Chart for Screw ReplacementSome may say you have a screw loose to attempt repairs on your own. Herman says, with a repair guide, and a way to keep track of those screws, you can manage.  He has a few tips, beginning with getting an antistatic mat. Next, take a picture of what your phone looks like after you remove the back casing. That?s what you?ll want it to look like when you?ve completed the job.

Herman tells us that the screws holding the camera, LCD, and Digitizer together come in different sizes. You need to replace the right sized screw in the same sized opening. If you play mix and match, or if one of those screws rolled off into the shag carpet, you might find yourself screwed, if you?ll pardon the expression.  He suggests an organizational chart to record what you take out and where it should go back in.

Other disasters can befall your phone – especially in summer. The wave that comes a little farther up than expected, or that Marco Polo splash your kid makes in the swimming pool can inundate the iPhone sitting on your beach towel. When that happens, check out iFixYouri, for repair to a water damaged iPhone. Or if replacing a shattered screen seems too daunting to do yourself, they can help with that also. Costs are $129 and $189 respectively. The alternative is to personally increase Apple?s bottom line by buying a new phone.
