Point of View Puts Android Tablets in Coaches (IDE)

Point of View is probably most known as the Dutch manufacturer of graphics cards and creator of TGT-branded ultra-overclocked graphics cards. Besides being an AIB (Add-In Board manufacturer), the company is also known for its mainstream netbooks and notebooks, as well as tablets.

In order to expand the tablet side of business, Point of View is entering the IDE (In-Drive Entertainment) space for tourist busses/coaches with their Android-powered systems.

As you can see in the image above, the In-Drive Entertainment system is consisted out of a media server, two large overhead LCD monitors and approximately 42 Android-powered media stations. The station is consisted out of an Android based tablet with 7" resistive touch-screen featuring a resolution of 800×480. Resistive screen is selected in order for easy serviceability.

Given that power consumption is a paramount, we’re not surprised to see the system is powered by Rockchip 2818 ARM9 processor ticking at 600MHz, 256MB of DDR2 memory and 4GB of NAND Flash memory.

Should the customers give positive feedback during this summers’ rounds between Netherlands and Spain/Portugal, you’ll see many more buses coming to the market featuring this system. Tour operators can chose between current 7" system or opt to develop a 10.1" version with more powerful hardware (NVIDIA Tegra 2).
