A solid PSU that blows the competitors out of the water.
Near Silent Operation
The Tesla R2’s 135mm fan is probably as quiet as I have ever had the pleasure of using. Even under full load the Tesla R2 never breaks 45-50 decibels when tested at distance of 1cm. That’s a figure that comes somewhere between a quiet library and light rain. If you are any more than a few feet away, it is practically inaudible. This is not truly silent operation – the Tesla does not employ any kind of rubber isolation, but nonetheless it is impressive. Very few PSUs of this price range manage this level of noiselessness, so this a proverbial feather in the cap for Fractal and an important fact when considering the Tesla R2 White as a purchase.
Fractal Design Tesla R2 White: Pricing and Verdict
When considering a PSU purchase of any kind, the factor of price will prove a considerable, not least because there are so many competitively priced options out there from great hardware vendors like Corsiar, Antec, BeQuiet!, EVGA, XFX, Cooler Master and others. Fractal Design have plenty of competition in what has become a congested space where differentiation is increasingly difficult.
The Tesla R2 White is currently available on Amazon for $127.16 and carries a solid 3 year company warranty. There are certainly plenty of other options at this price point including higher wattage PSUs that also incorporate modular cabling, but what you are getting with the Tesla R2 is a solid piece of kit that looks good and is also very quiet. There are also nice touches like having a longer 12V rail cable that make a difference too, showing that Fractal do indeed listen to their customers. The white aesthetics may not suite everybody, but if you ever fancy speccing out a rig that is not 100% black, try black and white. It looks good the way Fractal do it. As far as our testing goes we believe the Tesla R2 to also offer highly reliable and efficient power delivery to your rig. We have no problem recommending it to our readers.
