Yes, it's a pretty cheap shot by Bungie/Activision. It certainly does not inspire any loyalty on my part, since they seem to be disloyal to the players.

With the DLC rotation, they have shown that they will gut features of the original product, at will. This really drove home the concept that I can't count on them, and that I probably should not devote much time or attention to an unreliable product.

Bungie can kiss my ass with this. I hadn't played the game for the last 5 weeks until today because Ice Breaker was finally for sale. I was happy and after doing some bounties I had saved up I went to do the daily story mission only to see it was from the DLC so I was out of luck. Screw that.

The amusing thing is I doubt they will change this so when the next dlc comes out in two months it will increase the amount of daily/weekly challenges that will require the dlc making those like me who refuse to give a junk company like this more money have a butchered game. I can see there being full weeks where none of the daily story and weekly stuff will be available and they will probably lessen the strike playlist rewards for us vanilla folk even more. Throw in the rumored mega expansion in September and Bungie is probably looking to make the game obsolete for anyone who dares to just want to play the vanilla version. I don't know of any other game in history that has worked like that.

It is downright pathetic that what many gamers will do is just give in and buy DLC when something like this is done instead of taking a stand and telling the company they can shove it. These companies need gamers not the other way around and just giving in because you have no principle means other companies will catch on and start doing it and eventually the entire industry will be ruined. It's bad enough looking at all the micro transactions and exclusive content and how piss poor most games are released as and how they need 4 trillion patches just to be functional.

Destiny is I think indeed just an experiment to see how addicted people are and to see what a company can get away with when they have people addicted. Judging by what I have seen online with all the Destiny diehards it seems they can get away with a lot of crotch kicking and it is almost embarrassing being a gamer these days with how so many defend companies for this type of crap.

I enjoy playing Destiny but not enough to put up with this. Buying the dlc from a financial aspect is not an issue as 20 bucks is peanuts to me. It's just the sheer principle of the matter and I will have no problems not playing this game in the future if Bungie gets even more greedy and pushy with this strategy. There are better and just as enjoyable or more enjoyable games out there that I will spend my time with.

To summarize, it is like buying a brand new car with five fabric seats and then, three months later, the vendor ask you if you want to pay to have a leather seat in your car.
You say you don't want the leather seat as you are happy with your actual fabric seats.
So the vendor go to you car and remove one of the five fabric seats out of the car...
Then he keeps asking you to buy a new leather seat.

How much does a movie cost with snacks? Around 20 bucks give or take. So if I spend $60 on a game and I get the equivalent of three movies out of it then I think I've gotten a pretty good value for what I've spent, anything over say 10 hours of entertainment and it's a great value. I'm not really complaining and if people just did the math they probably wouldn't gripe as much either.

This will stop when people stop being stupid. If a game has a season pass or DLC announced before it's out, do not buy it. That's a big red flag: it usually means they cut the stuff right out of the game. Chances are it will get a "complete/GOTY/whatever" edition, with all the content for a much lower price. Hold your horses for a few months and your wallet will thank you. The games aren't going anywhere, especially if it's a big release -- loads of people will still be playing it. I had a blast with the original Borderlands, but I only got it when the GOTY version came out, with all the DLC on a separate disc.

I actually enjoyed the game. But there's something called "voting with your wallet".

Bungie is testing the waters with overpriced dlc and the more people who buy it, the more likely that this will become the norm for other games.

If you liked the game, I'd recommend you think real hard before buying any dlc or season passes for it. You could buy a whole new game for the price they're asking.

I'm expected to pay up to $20 dollars for a few levels; which I have to religiously replay everyday to unlock generic gear; which becomes irrelevant with the next overpriced dlc?

No thanks. I know some actual, decent MMOs that offers way more content for less than half the price.

I can't wait for $20 dlc "expansions" to become the norm(!)

I'm mostly a single player type of person. I don't mind playing multiplayer on my terms, but not with people I don't know because I find so many habits that veterans of multiplayer games do not want to put up with casual players. I finished the campaign in 4-6 hours. As an example, I was able to play Fallout 3 for over 100 hours of game time. Another example, Dragon Age: Inquisition I managed over 400 hours of game time. I'm supposed to put up with Destiny's 4-6 hours and then grind for the rest of it? For what? Now they are charging $20 more for DLC content. I think they will find they will not make as much money as they hope. Activision should have stuck with retreads of Call of Duty.
