Bungie has released a new hotfix update for Destiny that improves all raid gear found in the Dark Below DLC.

Tuesdays are always big days for Destiny players: it’s the day when everything is reset and they can jump back into the cycle of item farming in the raids and weekly Nightfalls and Heroic Strikes.

To start things off Bungie has passed a new hotfix that specifically addresses gear earned in the new Dark Below raid, updating Destiny to v 1.1.0.2 in the process.

So far dedicated Guardians have complained about the efficacy of Crota’s End raid gear, saying that their previous level 30 gear is actually better in many ways. It appears when you previously equipped a piece of raid gear your level would drop below 30 until you built it up–which of course takes time, leaving you weakened and vulnerable in the meantime.

The raid is easier the higher level you are, as the more Light you have the stronger you are. So when users would equip raid gear they found fresh out of the Crota’s End battle, they’d drop down, which frustrated many users.

Bungie has remedied this by ensuring all items dropped in the raid will no longer drop players below level 30. “Both existing and future Raid gear obtained in Crota’s End now begins at Level 30 with an upgrade path to reach Level 32,” Bungie wrote in the patch notes.

The new class-specific raid helmet will also being to drop in Crota’s End on normal difficulty. Before now this coveted item could only be attained in the new raid’s hard mode, which hasn’t been unlocked yet.

As a result the helmet will also drop at higher frequency in hard mode when it’s unlocked next month.

Despite the arduous process of upgrading gear and the absence of a raid helmet, a Guardian has already hit level 32 since the new expansion passed. The user goes by the handle EnormousTrash, and has accumulated the count of 63 Radiant Shards to master a set of Warlock-centric Deathsinger’s raid gear to hit max level.

Additionally the new hotfix allows Guardians to replay the Dark Below‘s Fist of Crota mission, and we should see it added to the Daily Heroic Story playlist. Below we have a full copy of the patch notes:

It appears that legendary gear included in Destiny‘s upcoming DLC pack has been leaked.

The reports come straight from Destiny DB, which lists three sets of Titan, Hunter and Warlock armors as rewards for Destiny‘s new raid.

The raid itself is dubbed “Crota’s End” and will focus on the nefarious Hive, with Crota himself possibly making an appearance. Crota’s End is planned to be included in the game’s upcoming Dark Below DLC this December.

The legendary raid gear for Crota’s End is pretty powerful, but for now it only contains the ability trees for the Vault of Glass raid. Destiny DB lists full sets–that is helmets, chestpieces, gloves, boots and bonds/capes/marks for each character.

It’s to be expected that the new sets will mirror the same damage buffs against Hive enemies, along with Special Ammo boosts and Defense modifiers.

Thanks to Reddit user SwordofCrota for compiling the following list of full raid gear:

SwordofCrota also came across a new legendary handcannon by the name of Jewel of Osiris, which may be included as a Trials reward in the new DLC, along with the possibility of a legendary Sparrow.

Bungie hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet, so the leaked items could very well change dramatically or just a bit. There is some speculation that Bungie will raise the level cap in the new DLC, but that remains speculation. All we know now is that The Dark Below is scheduled to launch in December and that it’ll almost certainly come with a new raid.

Destiny’s The Dark Below DLC is currently available for pre-order for $19.99, and includes content–like the new Hive raid–that will remain exclusive to the PlayStation 4 until at least Fall 2015.

Sparkle is launching a new technique to increase cooling properties of their coolers. Unlike complicated schemes such as heat-pipe or vapor chamber technology, Sparkle implemented Diamond-like Carbon coating to already existing material.

As cooling requirements on computing components increase, manufacturers are launching ingenious ways to cool down the components. After the rise of copper, heat-pipe and vapor chamber coolers, alternatives such as bubble-pump and liquid metal appeared. However, the latter didn’t enjoy the success (yet), so the race for next viable cooling technique is on.

The latest entrant to the alternative-cooling material market is Sparkle Computer Co. Ltd. Engineers at Sparkle experimented with various graphics cards and earlier today, the company officially debuted Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) radiator for graphics cards. In order to apply DLC material to the already existing aluminum or copper heatsink, Sparkle used Plasma Enhanced CVD (PECVD) technique, but in order to make this technique more consumer-friendly, marketing came up with the term Diamonds Sputtering technology (DS).

This puny cooler showed great promise. We wonder what will happen once that DLC is applied to a large 2-slot cooler...

Now, to clear any potential confusion, DLC is not a replacement material for aluminum, carbon or something similar. DLC is used as a coating on existing material, and it will enhance its thermal properties. Achieved results are quite interesting – according to Sparkle, their conventionally-cooled GeForce 9500GT heats up to 88C. After Diamond-like Carbon membrane was applied to the same radiator, temperatures dropped by five degrees Celsius, down to 83C. Now, to make things more interesting, heat is not the only issue that DLC effectively deals with. Apparently, this super-hard carbon coating also increases resistance to bending and scratches, making this material very desireable for copper fins, that just “love” to bend after just looking at them.

It will be interesting to see future GeForce graphics cards coming from Sparkle, since now the company can use its Diamond Sputtering Tech on regular Nvidia-supplied coolers as well, manufacturing DLC-clad graphics cards from their launch onwards. If price premium is not an issue, this technology is one interesting newcomer to watch.
