Gigabyte (TPE:2376) is trying to strike a balance between portability and performance with its latest gaming notebook, the Ultraforce P35X. With a thickness of 20.7mm and overall weight of 2.2 kgs, the notebook may not be the thinnest in the world, but it succeeds in offering performance that is at par with high-end desktop rigs.

Configurations options for the 15.6-inch screen notebook include the quad-core Intel Core i7-4860HQ or the Core i7-4710HQ, which feature the newer Intel HD 5200 graphics built-in. Memory configurations include 4, 8 or 16GB. Internal storage is also highly configurable, with the Ultraforce P35X facilitating two 512 GB mSATA SSDs. Combined with two 2 TB HDDs, the total on-board storage can be extended to as much as 5 TB.

The notebook comes with a full-HD panel, although you can configure it with a WQHD+ display with a resolution of 2880 x 1620 as well. Powering the high-resolution display is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M that offers 8GB of GDDR5 video memory, with Gigabyte claiming a 3D Mark 11 score of P10000. The GPU has 1536 cores, and is clocked at 1038 MHz, with enough headroom for gamers looking to overclock. When on battery, users can adjust settings to maximize the GPU performance through Battery Boost 2.0.

Other features include a back-lit keyboard, Blu-Ray writer, two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, D-sub, mini DisplayPort, RJ45, card reader, 3.5 mm jack with SPDIF out in addition to Wi-Fi 802.11 ac.The notebook will be available from Friday, December 5. Gigabyte hasn’t detailed the base pricing for the notebook yet.
