With impending release of Blizzard’s (NASDAQ:ATVI) new expansion for World of Warcraft, Warlords of Draenor, what better way to celebrate than with a custom case mod? Mnpctech’s pro case modder Bill Owen takes an Antec Eleven Hundred case and builds a case worthy of the Iron Horde.

The new expansion for World of Warcraft is Warlords of Draenor, and it comes out on November 13th. There is no doubt that tonight will be a sleepless night for millions of World of Warcraft players. In fact crowds are forming in-game at the Dark Portal waiting for the expansion to go live. What has been a good way for players to channel their anxiety of the upcoming release? Well tributes to the game are a good place to start, and there are few tributes to PC games better than case mods.

Antec Eleven Hundred pre-mod

Nothing says dedication in the PC enthusiast arena more than well thought out custom case mods. This is something the average person can do to their case to make it unique and stand apart from others. The best time to really take in case mods is at an event such as a lanparty where many people bring their custom works to display and play on. There is a big industry catering to those who chose to create unique PCs, and one of those companies is Mnpctech. It sells supplies, tools, and other parts to mod PCs with, and they also have a staff that are expert PC modders. Their work has been featured in many magazines and websites around the world.

Bill Owen, the founder of Mnpctech and pro modder created a case to celebrate the new expansion. He did so with an Antec Eleven Hundered, parts from his company, and a lot of hard work and paint. The build log is a fun one to look at and see how the build came together. The end result looks amazing and the case ends up looking like it was built from a blacksmith out of iron.

End of 2008 will also mark an end of a company that is a direct cause for all those gaming oriented and overclocking oriented motherboards. Back in 1998, two companies released motherboards that were able to overclock the Celeron 300A from 300 MHz to 450 MHz with a simple BIOS tweak. One of companies was Iwill, now part of Flextronics, and the other was ABIT, now part of Universal ABIT group.

Sadly for the enthusiasts, ABIT was always known as the “weird” managed company, even by far eastern standards. It was well known that the old owner and CEO was “high on horoscopes as a junkie”. Hearing that somebody got fired with a simple explanation “your horoscope is bad today” was just unbelievable for a serious company. These moves undermined the confidence of engineers in the company and many jumped ship to competition, creating products such as Republic of Gamers, LANParty, Dominators and many more.

Well, everything comes to an end, and mismanaged moves ultimately drove ABIT to extinction. Courtesy of Cameron from TweakTown, I learned that Universal ABIT will close its doors on December 31, 2008.
This is an end of an era, but also an omen: if your management seriously mismanages the company, it will come back to haunt you, regardless of how powerful you might be at present time.

After dropping the bombshell last week, more details about AMD’s exciting fight back are slowly coming to life. Several e-tailers decided to get under the limelight and listed pricing of upcoming Phenom II processors.
As well all know, the Phenom II will be launched on the first day of CES 2009 (January 9, 2009), and the launch models are 920 (2.8 GHz) and 940 Black Edition (3.0 GHz). According to Australian website Austincomputers, the price of Phenom II 940 Black Edition is set at 532.40 Australian dollars (€264/US$342). It does not stop there – TDshop.it , Italian e-tailer who listed prices for both Phenom II 920 and 940. According to Italian store, price of 920 is set at 251 Euro, while 940 will set you back for 299 Euro.
As you probably know, Sales Tax/VAT in EUrozone is extremely high, in the range of 15%+. For instance, Croatia has 22% and that isn’t the highest on the continent. Thus, if we deduct VAT from that Italian store, we get following:

AMD Phenom II 940 Black = €245 = US$318

AMD Phenom II 920 = €205 = US$266

There you have it. Now, we can get clearer picture at the cost of upcoming 45nm processors from AMD. When you calculate the price of the rest of the platform, a cool but silent overclocking system for 4.0 GHz clock should probably be made of these components:

AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition – $320

Noctua NH-C12P – $65

DFI LANParty 790GX-M2RS – $150

Corsair Dominator 4GB PC2-8500 – $110 ($70 after $40 MIR)

Corsair CMPSU-1000HX modular power supply – $250

Overall, $840 without graphics, storage and the case. Not bad for a 4.0 GHz system.
