Also announced is a new NF-A6x25 PWM fan that delivers automatic speed control.

The NH-L9x65 is aimed at offering much better performance than its predecessor, the NH-L9i. WIth mini-ITX motherboards now facilitating powerful processors, there is an increasing need for CPU coolers that offer an ample amount of cooling in a small form factor. The NH-L9x65 fits the bill in that regard, with the 51mm tall cooler featuring four nickel-plated copper heatpipes for efficient heat dissipation, which is aided by an NF-A9x14 fan.

The 2500 RPM fan is quoted to run at a noise level of 23.6 dBA. Although the presence of the fan raises the height of the cooler to 65mm, Noctua has retained the 95 x 95 footprint with the NH-L9x65 as well as full compatibility with PCI-Express devices and RAM modules, which is crucial in a segment where space is at a premium.

The NH-L9x65 features Noctua’s SecuFirm2 mounting system for both Intel and AMD motherboards, and comes bundled with the NT-H1 thermal compound. While several of Noctua’s offerings are aimed at the overclocking segment, the brand has mentioned that the NH-L9x65 is ideally suited for CPUs that do not exceed a TDP of 84W. The CPU cooler will be making its way to retailers later this month, with prices starting at $52.90.

Also announced with the NH-L9x65 is a new PWN fan called the NF-A6x25. The 60mm offering comes with the new SSO2 bearing, delivers fully automatic speed control through the 4-pin fan headers, and has a Low-Noise-Adaptor to reduce the maximum speed during from 3000 to 2300 RPM. The fan will retail for $17.90.

The Austrian-based manufacturer launched a new line of heatsinks late last year, with one model – the NH-D9DX i4 3U – aimed at LGA2011 socketed servers, while the other two – the NH-U9S and NH-D9L – targeted at consumers.

Noctua has several heatsinks in the 120mm to 140mm category, and now with the 92mm offerings it is looking to target smaller form factors like mini-ITX and HTPC. The goal with the NH-U9S and NH-D9L is to provide a similar amount of performance as the larger heatsinks albeit in a much smaller footprint.

NH-D9L overview

The NH-D9L is a dual-tower cooler with a fan at the center. There is also the ability to attach another fan to create a push pull mechanism. The fan in question, the NF-A9, is PWM controllable, and has custom rubber and nylon inserts to prevent it from coming into contact with the heatsink, mitigating noise levels in the process.

The NH-D9L sits lower than other offerings from Noctua in this series and is designed to slot into smaller form factor cases with ease. The 95x95mm footprint means that it won’t come into contact of any expansion slots or memory modules. Clearance of 110mm means that it is significantly lower than the larger products in the NH-D series, like the NH-D14, which has a height of 160mm.

Coming to the heatsink itself, the base and heatpipes of the NH-D9L are made out of copper, with aluminium the material of choice for the fin stack. There are 35 aluminium fins on either stack, and the design of the NH-D9L is such that the fan is larger than the fin stacks, sticking out at the top and bottom. The four heatpipes traverse through the fin stack, culminating in spikes at the top. The surface of the heatsink is not quite mirror-like, but it is smooth and flat, which is what is needed in this case.

We’ve been scouring the internet for good Cyber Monday deals, and we weren’t particularly impressed with TigerDirect’s nor Newegg’s Cyber Monday deals. Newegg’s deals are merely an extension of their Black Friday deals, some of which were very good deals, but the best deals are simply sold out. Getting beyond that, we’ve been looking for some hidden good deals and I think we’ve hit the jackpot.

Performance PCs is an enthusiast PC website, generally for buying cooling products and cases, however they have expanded their offerings over the past few years and now offer virtually everything you might want to buy for a PC. The real great thing about this deal is that it covers virtually everything they sell on the website with the exception of cases, processors, motherboards and Clearance items. This offer is only available today and offers either 75% off most items on the site or 8% off any order over $50 (not stackable).

For example, if you were to go and buy a Razer Goliathus Fragged Speed Edition in Alpha Large size, then you will pay $6.25 (already sold out) compared to $23 on Amazon. The deals they have are really quite good and span across Bitspower, Antec, Roccat, Enermax, Magicool, Koolance, Razer, Icy Dock, Noctua, Xigmatek, Thermaltake, StarTech, Nexus, Kingwin, Azio, Bytecc and Spire. You will very likely see the best deals on Razer products, which is why they are disappearing so quickly, so act fast.

Austrian hardware vendor Noctua launched three new CPU coolers geared at different use cases. The NH-U9S and NH-D9L are aimed at retail users, while the NH-D9DX i4 3U is targeted at the enthusiast segment with LGA2011 socket compatibility. All three models feature Noctua’s NF-A9 PWM 92mm fan.

The NH-U9S and NH-D9L are being offered as successors to the NH-U9B SE2, and Noctua states that both models come with additional improvements including better performance, compatibility and PWM support.

The NH-U9S has an asymmetric design and comes with five heatpipes. The cooler has been designed in such a way as to not obscure expansion slots, and the 95mm x 95mm footprint goes allows you to install memory modules with heat sinks with ease.

With the NH-D9L, Noctua is targeting system builders looking to install a CPU cooler in HTPCs and other small factor devices. The cooler has the same footprint as the NH-U9S, but has a shorter clearance of 110mm when seen against the 125mm of the NH-U9 series. The NH-D9L comes with four heatpipes.

The NH-D9DX i4 3U is similar in design to the NH-D9L, but comes with mounting brackets for LGA2011 sockets for both Square ILM and Narrow ILM Xeon platforms. The cooler also works with LGA13x6-based processors.

Noctua has carved out a niche for itself thanks to its quiet CPU coolers, and with its latest line, the vendor is continuing the trend. As is now considered standard, all three recently announced models come with Noctua’s NT-H1 thermal compound and a six-year warranty. The NH-U9S and NH-D9DX i4 3U will be available shortly for $59.99, while the NH-D9L will cost slightly lesser at $56.90.

A while ago, I wrote a piece about Noctua, Austrian company that decided to give away LGA-1366 adapters to all owners of their products. Since I own NH-U12P cooler with adapters for AM2/AM2+/AM3 and Socket 775, I needed the adapter for LGA1366, for the last piece of the puzzle called Core i7 meets QuadFire over Smackover ;-).

It took a week for a package to arrive, which is not so bad for a free adapter. This adapter allows you to do rotation to a multiple degree, and I can’t wait to bring you the pictures and the video of setting the system up. The video will be taken with our 4K RED One camera, as a part of demo show we’re doing here in Croatia.

After dropping the bombshell last week, more details about AMD’s exciting fight back are slowly coming to life. Several e-tailers decided to get under the limelight and listed pricing of upcoming Phenom II processors.
As well all know, the Phenom II will be launched on the first day of CES 2009 (January 9, 2009), and the launch models are 920 (2.8 GHz) and 940 Black Edition (3.0 GHz). According to Australian website Austincomputers, the price of Phenom II 940 Black Edition is set at 532.40 Australian dollars (€264/US$342). It does not stop there – TDshop.it , Italian e-tailer who listed prices for both Phenom II 920 and 940. According to Italian store, price of 920 is set at 251 Euro, while 940 will set you back for 299 Euro.
As you probably know, Sales Tax/VAT in EUrozone is extremely high, in the range of 15%+. For instance, Croatia has 22% and that isn’t the highest on the continent. Thus, if we deduct VAT from that Italian store, we get following:

AMD Phenom II 940 Black = €245 = US$318

AMD Phenom II 920 = €205 = US$266

There you have it. Now, we can get clearer picture at the cost of upcoming 45nm processors from AMD. When you calculate the price of the rest of the platform, a cool but silent overclocking system for 4.0 GHz clock should probably be made of these components:

AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition – $320

Noctua NH-C12P – $65

DFI LANParty 790GX-M2RS – $150

Corsair Dominator 4GB PC2-8500 – $110 ($70 after $40 MIR)

Corsair CMPSU-1000HX modular power supply – $250

Overall, $840 without graphics, storage and the case. Not bad for a 4.0 GHz system.

GELID is recently founded company by two friends of mine, Gebhard and VC Tran (nope, his first name is not Venture Capital ;-). The goal of the company is to build business based on combining the Swiss expertise with Far Eastern manufacturing capabilities, much in the same way as their previous company, Arctic Cooling or Noctua (with role of the Swiss replaced by Austria).
Mountains and cooling, these two probably go hand in hand. Anyways, I just received a press release stating that the company launched its Wing UV Blue series. Wing will probably come to market in green and red too, but for now, the company is launching UV Blue line-up.

Fans come with rubber mountings and a RPM controller

The line-up is consisted out of 80, 92 and 120mm fans, but what makes this product unique is the fact that the fans come with Nanoflux bearings. This type of bearings brings an interesting innovation – you can remove the blades to clean the dust, and also clean even the most hidden part of the fan casing itself.
Long story short, Nanoflux is nothing else but hermetically sealed bearing, meaning it is dust-proof and water-proof. In other words, it should not start squealing. Ever. In my humble opinion, if there is one annoying thing in whole computing experience – squealing fan or a card takes pole position. In the past five years, I’ve spent at least $200 and trashed fans from Zalman, Noiseblocker, Cooler Master and so on and so on. All because of squealing. Well, I’ll give this one a go.
Personally, I am a cleaning freak when it comes to PCs. Every three months, I take the whole rig apart and clean even the most hidden part of the computer – dust and I don’t go hand in hand. We’ll see can Gelid rise up to the task and produce a fan that will stay silent at least through its warranty (5 years).

Maker of world’s most effective water-cooling setups, CoolIT Systems – is currently putting a pedal to the metal in development of their new product.
I managed to learn that the company is working on greatly improving their product and designing robust solution that will be an ideal product for LAN party lunatics, which have to be really careful with their water-cooling setups during transport from their homes to LAN parties and back.

You can expect that the new product will also be price-friendly, and hopefully, one day water-cooling will be mainstream. There is nothing better than putting a Noctua 120mm fan on Freezone Elite and enjoying looking at AMD Phenom 9950 at 3.4 GHz, with CPU temperature around 27degC. In the world of Intel, I managed to put Core 2 Extreme QX6800 to 3.33 GHz, with a temperature idling at 37C, and 49C under full load.

So far, I haven’t been able to learn about the release date for the parts, but my guess is during next few weeks, in order to make it into Christmas shopping lists. Hopefully, this new product will offer same performance and a really good price

Friends at TechPowerUp! recently reported that Noctua, well-known firm in the cooling business decided to give a very pleasant present to the owners of their CPU coolers.
With the arrival of Intel Core i7 processors, Noctua announced that the company is giving away free mounting kits for LGA1366 socket. Named SecuFirm2, this socket adapter is compatible with all Noctua coolers since the company arrived on the market, three years ago.

Adapter for upcoming Core i7 CPUs...available free of charge

As soon as Nehalem processors and motherboards reach the stores, you can go and visit Noctua’s website and file an online request. You have to give out proof of purchase of either Noctua cooler or Nehalem motherboard or the CPU. For those that can’t provide the invoice for any of those three, Noctua will make this kit available at a low charge through its distribution network. This move is even more generous that SecuFirm for Intel Xeons, which didn’t reach high numbers, but the company earned a lot of kudos from Xeon users about it.
All in all, I consider this to be a really good deal, and evidence that the company is taking care of its customers. We hope that more companies will show this amount of goodwill. Now, if only NH-U12P would fit in my Hiper Anubis case… ah, nothing is perfect in this world…
