Google's hotly anticipated smartphone sold out within minutes, without much warning and no ability to pre-order the device either, angering many fans.

Many people expected Google to make the hotly anticipated Nexus 6 available sometime today, and they were right. The problem is that Google didn’t tell anyone what time it would be made available, which ended up being something like 10:30 am Pacific Time. But it gets much worse than that.

Google decided to list the 32 GB and 64 GB versions of both the blue and white Nexus 6, but they neglected to allow people to ‘back-order’ the phones. After Google ran out of whatever stock they had, they simply went out of stock without giving people an opportunity to pre-order or enter into a backlog like they did with the Nexus 5. Google handled the Nexus 5 fantastically, and many expected them to do the same with the Nexus 6, except they didn’t.

The company decided to take a step back from their wildly successful Nexus 5 launch and adopt the buying procedures that they had with the Nexus 4, if they’re up on sale, they’re available and that’s all you can buy. In an era where you can pre-order or backorder virtually anything and get same day shipping in some cases, it doesn’t make sense that Google would adopt this kind of a launch strategy, especially since people will get angry with the company. In fact, there are already thousands of very angry Android fans fuming about the fact that the Nexus 6 was available for no more than a few minutes and even those that caught it couldn’t get their orders in on time.

Demand for the Nexus 6 is so high in fact that people are already listing Nexus 6s that they bought on Google Play on Amazon for a 100% markup at $1,200 since it retails for $649.
