The latest statistics from the total amount of sold smartphones from Taiwan’s major mobile phone carriers showed that iPhone 6 64GB was the best-selling smartphone for December last year.

An anonymous smartphone dealer said that Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) grasped first place in both smartphone sales value and sales volume for last December. Local Taiwanese consumers’ enthusiasm toward the two new iPhone models with larger displays — the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus — remained strong after the two models became available in Taiwan since last September.

The statistics showed that the iPhone 6 64GB was the top seller among all its competitors for last December, followed by iPhone 6 Plus 64GB, Samsung’s (KRX: 005930) Galaxy Note 4, the iPhone 6 16GB and HTC’s (TPE: 2498) M8.

Meanwhile, HTC’s Desire 816 came in sixth, followed by Asus’ (TPE:2357) Zenfone 5 16GB, Sony’s (TYO: 6758) Xperia Z3, the iPhone 6 Plus 16GB and the HTC Desire 820 dual sim.

The statistics show that Apple took 25.9% of the total smartphone sales volume in the local market last month, the highest percentage, ahead of HTC, Asus, Samsung and Sony.

In terms of sales volume, Apple also ranked the top brand name with a 53.2% share, followed by Samsung, HTC, Sony and Asus.

The smartphone dealer said that although HTC trailed Apple in sales volume and lagged behind Apple and Samsung in sales value last December, several models of the Taiwanese smartphone maker, such as the HTC M8 and the Desire 816 have been on the top 10 model list for nine months, indicating that these models remain popular in the local market.

He said that the market is watching closely the launch of the next HTC flagship model, coded Hima, and a mid-range model, the Desire 626, scheduled for release in early March, which could boost HTC’s shipments in next few months.

Sony’s Xperia Z3 is officially coming to Verizon Wireless, we have known for quite some time thanks to people like Sascha Segan that Verizon would be getting the Sony Xperia Z3 in addition to T-Mobile. Sony held an event today to launch the Verizon Wireless version of the Xperia Z3, known as the Xperia Z3v. The Xperia Z3v still retains all of the features of the global Xperia Z3 including the 20.7 megapixel camera sensor, waterproof capability and days upon days of battery life. But it also adds the ability to have Qi wireless charging which is slowly gaining traction across the industry and you can even find it in some cars like Cadillac’s ATS Coupe that we’ll be reviewing shortly.

Another feature that the Z3v will have that makes it all the more interesting is the ability to use it as a remote display for your PlayStation 4 console, allowing you to essentially pause and then play your games anywhere in the house using your Xperia Z3v. All you need to do is connect your Xperia Z3v to the WiFi network and connect your Xperia Z3v to your PlayStation 4 controller via Bluetooth and you’re ready to go. In fact, this is one of the features that Sony touted earlier when they announced the Xperia Z3 Compact Tablet as well.

There are rumors, however, that the T-Mobile version of the Xperia Z3, not the Xperia Z3v, will have a standard capacity of 32GB of storage in addition to any memory card that you decide to install on your smartphone. And if you intend to ever use the 4K video feature of the Xperia Z3 on whichever carrier you decide to go with, you are going to need to have a pretty hefty memory card. Also, as stated earlier, this phone will be available on Verizon Wireless starting October 28th, but you can already put yourself on the notify list on Verizon Wireless’ website. The Smartwatch 3 will come to Verizon Wireless first and be paired with the Xperia Z3v much like the LG G Watch was paired with the LG G3, clearly Verizon gets the importance of wearables. And yes, the Sony Smartwatch 3 does run on Android Wear so you will have a much better interface than the ones from the past from Sony.

Right now, the Xperia Z3 is possibly the best phone for consumers looking to upgrade this fall, especially when you take into consideration that it still has a nice 5.2″ 1080P display, 3100 mAh battery that can do 2 days of usage and an impressive 20.7 megapixel camera. Not to mention all of the PlayStation 4 integration and minimal bloat which some other manufacturers still have to figure out.

Under Stamina mode, the phone is capable of saving battery in such a way that it can achieve an amazing 4 days of battery life. With the Xperia Z3, Sony had opted to not upgrade the smartphone’s screen size or resolution but rather focus on the overall battery life of the device as many smartphones still only last about a day. Sony believes that its decision to prolong battery life over unnecessary resolution and pixel density will ultimately make consumers happier. And frankly, 1080P is pretty good for most people, even though the LG G3’s resolution is also quite nice to look at. If anything, Sony gives consumers another choice about what they prefer in a smartphone and takes it to the next level with 7 days of battery life.

Sony also launched the whole family of Xperia Z3 devices this week at IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany with a strong focus on media and longevity. This is already in addition to being a completely waterproof phone that you can easily use underwater and the ability to affix Sony’s own camera sensor to it with professional lenses with the QX1 and QX30.
